My name is Matthew Schwen. I write and maintain this blog for myself and others who may be interested. I have built homegrown network automation tools very successfully for some large companies and the time has come to share some of my experiences for that random Googler.

My passion for networking started soon after I finished architecture classes in high school, but it was very indirect. I knew 100% that I wanted to be an Architect and I became somewhat of an expert in early versions of AutoCAD. In fact, I got a job at 17 years old working for an architecture firm making small modifications to architectural drawings. Despite all my dreams of becoming an architect I kept gravitating toward anything tech. This primarily translated to building custom gaming computers like any nerd in the late 90’s. When I was 18, I got a job at a small ISP and met a “network engineer” for the first time. However, at that time that was a loose term. He gave some training and began to draw on a whiteboard to help explain how a T1 was set up and installed. At that point I was fascinated, you could draw and be involved in tech at a deep level.

Many years later here I am, still a network engineer. However, most of my days are spent writing code in Python. My background includes network infrastructure architecture, operations, and automation. As well as extensive Linux and Python experience. To find out more you can visit my Linkedin Profile page.

I live in Lehi, Utah right at the center of the Silicon Slopes tech boom. I have 3 amazing children and am married to my lady lover and soul mate. I enjoy snowboarding, playing Rocket League and League of Legends, guitar, piano, listening to books and podcasts, coding, and learning just about anything that is of interest to me. I have lived in Utah, California, Boston, and Virginia.
